Hello, and Happy Monday! Get your calendars out so you can save the date for a very important event. Ready with your pencils? Okay, the date is Thursday, September 28, 2017. The event is Remember Me Thursday.
Disclosure: We received the box of items pictured in this post from HWAC in exchange for partnering with them for Remember Me Thursday. HWAC is not responsible for the contents of this post and Lola The Rescued Cat only shares information we think will be of interest to our readers.
Last year we found out about Remember Me Thursday on the internet and thought it was such an important event that we just had to write a post about it. Helen Woodward Animal Center had a table at BlogPaws this year, and when Mommy saw it she just had to stop by to tell them how much we support their mission and that we shared the message on our blog last year. Well, guess what? This year we’re official partners with HWAC and we’re very excited.
What is Remember Me Thursday
In case you’re not familiar with this movement, let me tell you a little about it. Remember Me Thursday® aims to unite individuals and pet adoption organizations around the world to be an unstoppable, integrated voice for orphan pets in need of forever homes. As you know, our motto is Adopt Don’t Shop! By adopting you save an animal’s life. “Millions of beautiful, adoptable pets will lose their lives in 2017,” states Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center. “We all come from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds, but together, we can raise our voices and share one life-saving message and literally save millions of pets on this one day.” All of our voices together can be on BIG voice for animals. We bet that would be heard around the world! As you know, we are shelter cats. Lexy was lucky and was in a wonderful shelter and she could have lived there forever is she needed to. Me… I wasn’t so lucky. Animals could not live there forever and many were euthanized for various reasons. Because of our experiences we’re proud to be partnering with HWAC to spread the word about this important movement.
The Big Reveal
HWAC sent us some fab items to get the ball rolling! See those signs? We LOVE them and will be posting photos of us with them on social media in the coming weeks. I may even write a little something about why I write to save lives. Oh, I shouldn’t spoil the surprise! Never mind, just ignore that.Lexy liked the shirt and wanted to claim it.
But Will liked it, too, so he posed for a photo wearing it. (Will has two cats, too. Boomer was a family member’s cat who needed a new home, and Jack was found skinny and hungry on the street.)
How You Can Participate in Remember Me Thursday
There are many ways you can participate, and we’ll be blogging about them very soon so please stay tuned! I will give you a little hint, though – you can light a candle in honor of a rescued pet who is special to you, so get your pens out and start making your list!Watch our blog for more updates, and don’t forget to use the hashtag #RememberMeThursday on social media to help us spread the word.

ReplyDeleteSuch a special day but it does make the heart hurt.
ReplyDeleteWe'll absolutely be there!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I'd do without Bear (who I found homeless on the street) or Ellie (who was picked up by animal control and returned to the rescue who adopted her out as a kitten). Bear saved my life - so anyone who thinks his life is negligible, must also believe the same about mine. I don't know what it is specifically - but cats can work miracles in the lives of those who love them. Every euthanized cat makes humanity a little poorer ... every life, a loss of potential for healing, love, and companionship. It's so sad that so few people recognize any of this.
ReplyDeleteI'm on board with anything that helps promote adoption or helping shelters! This sounds like a great initiative. I love the shirt, I don't blame Lexy for wanting to claim it!
ReplyDeleteLove & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
So special!!! I'm all for adoption, that's how I got my two babies. :) - Shelby
ReplyDeleteWonderful event. I'll have to make a note on the calendar. Mr. N was adopted. He wasn't in any danger either but by adopting him, there was room for another foster dog!
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of Remember Me Thursday before! I will definitely be marking my calendar for this important day and looking for more information from you.
ReplyDeleteI've been following Remember Me Thursday for a few years now. The first candle I lit was for my Lucy cat. She came to me as a stray and I lost her in 2013 to kidney failure. The second candle I lit was for two campus cats. I fed them as part of a TNR group. We lost them during a flood. The third candle I lit was also for a campus cat. She went missing after construction near her feeder. The lives of outdoor cats can be harsh and I'd love to see them all have forever homes.
ReplyDeleteI adopted two different dogs from our local pound (that's what they were called back then.) I never thought about the face that they could have been euthanized if we hadn't adopted them. It is sad to know that there are still so many animals that don't make it out of shelters alive.
ReplyDeleteI am marking the date now and thanks for the handy reminder.
ReplyDeleteWe promoted like stink for RT last year, I remember it so well, it was lot of fun to do.
ReplyDeleteI love your tshirt and set too. Well done
thank you for the advance warning for Remember Me Thursday. Rescue organizations are so important in helping get cats (and dogs) into forever homes.
ReplyDeleteIts a great event and we do it every year, thanks for mentioning it, woof from Layla
ReplyDeleteRemember Me Thursday is such a wonderful idea that has really taken hold - HWAC does great work, and we fully support them! Thank you for this reminder, and we will definitely share and be involved!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder. We also adopt, advocate for and love rescues so we will participate again this year too.
ReplyDeleteI have it marked on my calendar to participate. Great event. My dogs are rescues, although not in the official sense, since I "inherited" them when my mom died - but they would have entered the shelter system if I hadn't.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the news about such an important date. We'll put it on our calendar to help spread the word. The date falls shortly after Puppy Mill Awareness Day another important day reminding people to adopt and don't shop at pet stores selling pets. Sandra and Dolly
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing such an important cause, it's the first I've heard about it. My motto is also "adopt don't shop" and when I meet people who bought their dog or cat I want to scream. As a matter of fact neighbours of mine went to a breeder and bought a beautiful white cat which cost a lot of money. The exact figure I don't know but it was ridiculous. How sad when there are tens of thousands of cats and kittens dying in shelters every day, and of course dogs of all ages as well. If I could scream I would, but having voices united around the country sharing the message about homeless pets is a loud enough scream for me. Well done and thanks for sharing such a life saving date.
ReplyDeleteThis will be our second year participating in Remember Me Thursday and I am really looking forward to it. The gear they sent this year is really nice and I have been wearing my t-shirt a lot. See you on the 28th!
ReplyDeleteWe will be participating again this year!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful initiative! Thanks for telling us all about it! We will keep our eyes open for your post with ways to celebrate because we definitely want to participate! What better representatives for this than you girls!!
