Hello, and Happy Wednesday! I’m very excited to be meowing with you about a very important day. This Saturday, August 19, is Clear the Shelters Day! As former shelter cats, Lexy and I love spreading the word about this important day because our wish is for all animals to have a forever home.

Clear The Shelters Day 2016 #ClearTheShelters
Hello and happy Saturday Caturday! I’m so happy to be spreading the word about the third annual Clear The Shelters event again this year! Lexy and I just love this day because it’s our wish for all shelters to be empty and for all animals to be with their forever families. *sigh*… maybe someday the world will be that way.
Until then I’ll spread the word about #ClearTheShelters! Clear the Shelters is a ground-breaking, community-driven initiative which matches deserving animals with loving, permanent homes. The first Clear The Shelters event was launched in Texas in 2014 through a partnership between NBC in Dallas-Fort Worth and Telemundo. Over 2,200 animals were adopted in one day through dozens of participating shelters. How cool is that? Since that event was such a success, Clear The Shelters went nationwide last year.

Save Your Furniture With Clawguard Furniture Shields - Review, Giveaway, and Interview With Founder Kevin Dixon
I’ve been fairly lucky with destructive scratching with Lexy and Lola. I say “fairly” because, at the end of the day, they are cats. I remember the fits my mother threw when our cats would scratch the furniture as well as I remember shredded couch arms. Compared to that, I am fairly lucky today. Lexy and Lola will scratch the furniture from time to time, even with scratchers nearby. I'm frequently redirecting them.

Catnip Nation - A Documentary About Feral Cats and the People Who Take Care of Them
Cat Camp NYC, which took place this past March in Manhattan, turned out to be a very educational experience for me. I was able to speak to people from all walks of the cat community, learning about their missions, values, and work. One of the people I had the pleasure of meeting was Tina Traster, the Producer and Director of the documentary film, Catnip Nation.
When I was looking at the promotional materials for the film, I noticed they are located in Rockland County, NY where I was born and raised. This piqued my interest and made me very happy because many people don’t even know that Rockland County is on the map! I was so pleased to hear that a spotlight is being shone on the wonderful people whose tireless efforts improve the lives of homeless cats in my hometown.
The film’s trailer brings me to tears.

Getting Inspired to Write Quality Content
This post is sponsored by the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network™. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about how BlogPaws helps educate and inspire pet influencers but Lola The Rescued Cat only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Blogging is a lot of work! It requires a lot of time and dedication. A blogger can spend as much time (or more!) on their blog as they do in their full-time job. There are times where you may feel uninspired and it can be difficult to generate new ideas.
Today I've decided to share with you what inspires me to create quality content, even when it may get exhausting.

Give a Cat From Tabby's Place Their Forever Home -#RememberMeThursday 2019
Today is a very important day in the rescue/advocacy world. Today is Remember Me Thursday, a day where light is shined on and attention is brought to pets in rescues and shelters waiting for their forever homes. It stresses the importance of animal adoption because 2.7 million orphan shelter pets lose their lives without ever finding their forever homes. Alarmingly, only 30% of household pets in the U.S. come from rescue facilities. Only 30%! That number is disturbing to me. There are so many shelters and rescues in the country that are at full capacity, and cannot take in another animal. That means that animal will most likely remain on the street.

Forgotten Felines at Tabby's Place - Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week
Hello and happy Friday! I’m here to bring you our third post in our “Adopt A Less Adoptable Pet” week series. Today I’m presenting some of the “Forgotten Felines” at Tabby’s Place. If you’ve seen our other post on the sancuary here you already know that Tabby’s is one of Mommy’s favorite places on earth and she’s met many of these cats. Now, to be considered a “forgotten feline” means that the cat has been there 5+ years. That right… I said 5+ years! *shakes head* That’s way too long to be looking for your forever home if you ask me.

Sal - A Death Row Cat Who Touched My Heart
When I started following cats and other pets on Facebook in 2011 after adopting Lola, I had no idea that they, and their families, would come to mean so much to me. I was amazed at how an animal I had never seen in person could find their way into my heart just by reading their story and seeing their photo on the computer. I have laughed at their antics, liked their cute photos, and cried when they made their journeys to the Rainbow Bridge. Real, heart wrenching, sob inducing tears. I have sincerely felt like they took a piece of my heart when they passed. It’s not every animal I see on Facebook that makes me feel that way, but there are some, for reasons I still cannot wrap my entire mind around, that touch me in a profound way. Sal was one of those beautiful little souls.
I used to follow a page on Facebook that would spotlight animals who are on the euthanasia list in the city shelters. Every night I would see those little faces, most of whom were terrified and barely holding on to life, staring at me through the computer screen and I would cry. I felt completely helpless because there was nothing I could do to help them, nothing I could do to change their situation, and nothing I could do to alter the horrid shelter system they found themselves in. Eventually I had to stop reading the page. But one night in May, 2013 a friend tagged me in a photo of a cat named Sal. Sal was on “the list” and desperately needed to be pulled. In his photo he looked sick, heartbroken - and defeated.
It was that same look I had seen so many times in the eyes of so many animals. I immediately pledged money for his rescue and started to pray because I knew it would take a very special person to take this cat. I checked over and over to see if he was saved, and by a miracle, he was. A wonderful woman named Carolyn Albers had him pulled with the help of Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals and Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary. Sal was safe.
