Introducing Bearden the Bearded Dragon for Not of my Own Species Day

Hello everyone! This is Lexy checking in with a special interview for Not Of My Own Species Day. Today I am happy to introduce to you to our special friend, Bearden, a bearded dragon! We met Bearden on Instagram and fell in love with him. We just know you will, too.

Hello Bearden! Since today is Not Of My Species Day,  I thought it would be a great day to introduce you to our blogging friends. Welcome to our blog and thanks for joining me.  Ok, can you tell everyone what species you are and where you originate from?
I am a bearded dragon and my breed originates from Australia!

How old are you?
I am 10 months old!

Who do you live with?
I live with my mom, grandma, 9 sisters, and 2 brothers!

Can you tell us a little about your habitat?
Yes! I live in a 50-gallon tank with vita sand, 2 basking rocks, a half log, and a food bowl! And I get misted often and take many baths!

Do you ever get to run around the house?
Yes I do but not to often I just mainly snuggle with mommy!

Do you  play with your cat and dog siblings?
No, I don't because it is in their natural instincts to hunt and mommy says that she doesn't want me to get hurt! But they do like to watch me when I'm in my tank!

What do you like to eat?  I heard  you like hornworms and crickets! Where does your mom get those? Are they easy for you to chew?
My favorite foods are crickets, hornworms, mustard greens, strawberries, and I just found out that I like watermelon! My mommy buys my fruits a veggies at food lion and she gets my crickets at PetSmart. But she buys my hornworms online! Yes, it is all very easy to chew!

How many  times a day do you eat?
I only eat once a day for dinner but when I was a baby I would have a small breakfast and a good sized dinner!

Can you tell us what a typical day is for a bearded dragon?
A typical day for me is to sleep most of the day away and then get lots of cuddles from mommy! Oh and I can't forget dinner! I love food!

Now, people may be wondering if bearded dragons are affectionate. Do you let your mom hold you?
Yes! I love when my mommy picks me up! She cuddles with me all the time!

How did you come to live with your mom?
My mommy basically saved me from PetSmart. The lady that worked there took very good care of me, but the place that I was transported from did not. So when I arrived at PetSmart I was under distress.  It took me a while to trust mommy but now I love her to death! And she loves me! I have my moments of not wanting to be touched at all but I'm good most of the time!

Is there anything else you think people should know about bearded dragons?
Well the only other thing that they should know is that we do need a lot of care. And we are not cheap! You have to make sure that we have the right light setup and all the right accessories! But other than that we are very loving!

Thank you, Bearden. It was a pleasure interviewing you.

Ok, friends, now that you have met Bearden, you can follow him on Instagram to keep up with his daily activities in Nash County NC with his mom, Gracie. We love keeping an open mind and making all kinds of different friends.

Do you have a friend that is not of your species?

  1. My human loves bearded dragons - actually she loves ALL lizards! I keep her busy, which is probably the only reason she doesn't have any.
