Hello, and Happy Tuesday! Today is a very special day! I was going to have you guess what it is, but the title of my post gives it away. Today is my seventh Gotcha Day! Seven years ago today I came home - forever.
I actually adopted Mommy a week prior when I met her for the first time, but I had to wait a week to be discharged from the hospital. Here's what I wrote in my diary that day: A lady named Dawn came to visit me today. I was very excited and I tried to look stunning, but this was the best I could do:
I laid on the charm, though! I gave her snuggles and the silent meow (well, I don't have any other meow right now except the silent meow; I hope my voice comes back someday) and I was just the sweetest little thing. She commented on how skinny I am (which made her very sad) and said how much she loves my long, elegant tail. She didn't even mind when I rubbed my snotty nose on her. Guess what she said next? She said "I had to meet you to see if I thought you would get along with my Lexy. I would love to give you a home if they would let me." She wants to be my new mom! I'm so happy I'm going to have a home and a family. Leslie has to check her references first, but I just know everything will work out. She fell in love with me already!
That was such an exciting day! Even though I wasn't feeling well I wanted to shout from the rooftops that I had a forever home!
Well, I tried to, anyway. When I meowed nothing came out!
On my second day home, I wrote this in my diary: Day two in my new home. I'm a little weak and tired today, so I just lie in my bed for a while. Mommy says she will get me well if it's the last thing she does. She loves me, and that makes me feel good. Sigh... it's great being rescued.
This is one of Mommy's favorite photos of me.
Seven years has flown by! Sometimes I just can't believe how much my life has changed. I went from dumpster kitty, to shelter cat, to Facebook purrsonality, to published author, to advo-cat for kitties who don't have a voice for themselves. (Well, I share that honor with the best big sister, ever, Lexy.)
Okay, now for the exciting stuff! In honor of my Gotcha Day, I'm raising money for Abandoned Angels Cat Rescue. For every comment on this post, and on the post pinned to the top of our Facebook page (between today and January 31), I’m going to donate 50 cents to AACR. Miss Lynda (who rescued our friend, Shiloh), runs a one-woman operation. Shiloh's mom runs the Facebook page, and there are a few fosters that help, too. Other than that she does it all on her own. She takes all the calls and emails to her address, goes to the person/cat who is in need to assess the situations, and decides what and how AACR can help. She takes the photos and creates the Craig's List and Petfinder ads, networks within the community to find help, and also to see who she can help. And... she coordinates the spay/neuter and all vetting and medical needs of the cats. That's a lot of work for one person! We always support AACR and love to help them when we can.
But that's not all, folks. I'm also giving away a copy of my diary! That's right, you can win a purrsonally pawtographed copy of Lola: Diary of a Rescued Cat and read about my rescue and recovery. Just enter via the Rafflecopter below. The giveaway is open to residents of the US and Canada, 18+ years of age, except where prohibited by law. One winner will be selected randomly by Rafflecopter and contacted via email. The winner will have 48 hours to claim their prize. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the prize, and a new winner will be randomly selected by Rafflecopter. To qualify for the giveaway, a comment must be left on our blog post. Other entry options are available after a comment is left. The giveaway closes on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Midnight Eastern.
Please join me in my celebration by sharing my post so I can raise a lot of money for Abandoned Angels Cat Rescue! And if you'd like to purchase a copy of my book, you can get it on Amazon. (We donate ten percent of our profits to rescues and shelters.)
Happy gotcha day, Lola! You really lucked out - I wish all kitties could have awesome homes too.

ReplyDeleteAthena's story is similar. She was dumped in someone's garden but luckily got rescued by the local animal shelter and that's where we met and the rest is history :)

ReplyDeleteDarling, Happy Happy Gotcha Day! I am so glad we share this day as a statement to the love our parents have for us. Rafflecopter hates me..I have never ever won anything with it so I will just go buy the book. Love you a whole bunch! And tell your mommy that my mommy wants to know where to write her to tell her about the comment problem she is having. I think she said she would listen and see if she knew how to help.
ReplyDeleteHappy gotcha day, Lola! We are all rescues but none of us lived in a shelter. We went from the street, to the vet, and then to Z-girl’s house. We don’t think ANY of us would have been adopted had we been in a shelter—we were all so scared and cowered away from human touch, at first (except Coco and Vali—they had a little bit of socialization when they were born)...you were so SMART to know that you needed to look cute and Miss Dawn sure saw just how special you were, and are! We love your story! This is such a nice thing for you and your mom to do for the rescue. It’s a lot of work and time, and it takes a village to help cover costs.
ReplyDeleteWe already have a pawtagraphed copy of your book (we *love* that!), so we will leave the raffle to those people who don’t yet have their own. It’s a great giveaway! Hope you get some extra snuggles and treats tonight! Love you! The Squeedunk gang—Coco, Valentina, Manhattan, Bessie, Lulu, Mimi, and foster girl Picasso
Happy gotcha day. Loved reading your story and hope the donation goes a long way helping other kitties in need.

ReplyDeleteHappy Gotcha Day! What a great way to give back to others! I remember the first time my former stray cat fell into a deep, worry free sleep. It made me really happy that he felt safe. I am pretty sure that was the same way your mom felt in when she saw you sleeping on Day 2.
ReplyDeleteHappy Gotcha Day! You knew what you were doing when you found Mom Dawn. We know how much she loves you!
ReplyDeleteHappy Gotcha Day, Lola. All 3 of my kitties are Rescue kitties. Luna, whom I have had now for a year and a half was a very frightened young cat that I foster failed with! She is curled up next to me , purring, and telling me what to write. We really enjoyed your wonderful Rescue story ❤️
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Gotcha Day - I think Gotcha Days are better than birthdays as it is the day we celebrate the freedom of a pet from a shelter. Hope you have a wonderful spoiled day with a woof from Layla
