MYLAP Pet Bed Makes Your Pet Feel Like You're Never Far Away - (Giveaway)

If someone were to ask me what I love the most about attending cat-themed conventions, I wouldn’t hesitate to reply that it is meeting  and making connections with other cat-loving people. If I make one connection at a conference, I consider it a success.

Cat Camp NYC took place this past May, and I actually considered not attending. ( I know, I know… what was I thinking?!?) I had a lot going on in addition to having recently attended Catsbury Park and BlogPaws, and I had an upcoming trip to the Cat Writers’ Association conference. But how could I not just pop in since it was practically in my backyard? (And the new location was right across the street from the Long Island Rail Road, which made it super easy.)

I’m very happy I decided to go because in terms of connecting with people it was a huge success! The first vendor I bumped into when I entered the exhibit area was Tammy Olley of MYLAP™ Pet Bed.

I was immediately intrigued when I saw her product. After learning more about it, and hearing her personal story, I knew this was something I wanted to share with my readers.

It was developed on the concept that our pets find comfort in our scent. There have been multiple studies that have shown the familiar scent of their owner has helped reduce separation anxiety and can create an overall sense of calm in animals. So how does it work? You wear a pair of pants so they absorb your scent, and then put the pants on the bed as the cover. Your scent is now added to the bed, and your pet can nestle in the comforting shape of your lap. 

I initially thought that Lola would be the one who would take to this bed because she’s my velcro kitty, but I was wrong. Lexy loves it! She has decided that no other bed in the house can compare to her MYLAP Bed.

I wore a pair of leggings and then placed them on the bed, then I tied the bottoms of the pants together. 

This created a cradle that Lexy nestled right into.

Tip: To ensure your scent is attached to the pants before using them as the cover, wear the pants overnight or keep them in your bed for a night or two.

The idea for the MYLAP Pet Bed came to Tammy when she was at a low point in her life. Tammy was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 41. During a 7-week course of radiation following a lumpectomy, the idea for her uniquely designed pet bed came to her.

“Every day after work, I would go to my radiation treatment and then drive an hour and a half home.  My days were long, as the radiation made me so tired and sore.  My cat had always slept on, between, or against my legs (you cat parents know what I am talking about), but at that time I was so sleep deprived and achy that as much as I loved her, I just wanted her off of me.  I needed every bit of restful sleep I could get just to make it through the next day. All I kept thinking was there must be something out there that could simulate my lap for my cat while I could also remain comfortable. I searched every store I could think of and scoured the internet but found nothing like what I was looking for.”

While Tammy was lying on the radiation table, thinking about bringing her idea to fruition became a distraction and gave her a new purpose. She dove right into developing and patenting something that would keep both her and her cat comfortable, and the MYLAP Pet Bed was born.

When Tammy began testing the bed on her cat, she realized her dog, who experiences separation anxiety, also loved the bed and started sleeping in it more and more. That’s when she decided to launch the bed for both cats and dogs.

The MYLAP is a great bed to have in the house when you go away so your pets miss you less. If you board your pet, this is perfect to bring along so the scents of home, and their favorite person, are nearby.

You can purchase a MYLAP Pet Bed on their website for $29.99 plus $6.99 shipping per bed. Beds are designed for both cats and dogs up to 25/30 lbs. Lexy is about 11.5 pounds, and she has plenty of room. (Another cat could fit very comfortably with her, but that will never happen in our house!)

MYLAP is made of a 100% polyester spun fabric and polyfill. The fabric is highly durable, yet soft and comfortable, and can be washed in a standard washing machine.
