Why Should I Trim My Cat’s Nails?
Briefly, ensuring your cats’ nails are cut regularly will decrease furniture shredding. And if you have a cat that likes to knead on you (like Lola does), you are less likely to get poked and scratched from their pointy nails. When Lola and Lexy’s nails are too long, they often get caught in things like their blankets, the cat tree, the scratcher, and my clothes. I try to gently remove their nails so they don’t get hurt, but they often continue to pull. And I feel so bad! I immediately go and get the clippers so I can give them a nail trim. Another important reason for regular nail clippings is that it avoids overgrown, curved in nails that can begin to grow into your cat’s foot pad. Imagine how painful that is! And of course, nail trimming is much more humane than declawing.
Stress-Free Nail Trims With Zen Clipper
I admit, trimming Lola and Lexy’s nails isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Of the two, Lola is the easiest and 99% of the time I can sit her on my lap and get all four paws done at once. With Lexy, I may only get two nails done at a time, and I have to attempt it when she’s sleeping. Because I have to be fast and they struggle and pull away, I’m always afraid I’ll injure them or cut the quick.
Zen Clipper Safely Cuts Only the Quick
Zen Clipper not only makes nail trims easier, but it also eliminates a lot of stress for all three of us. The patent-pending conical blade "ensures that the same amount of claw is removed every time and the quick can't be harmed even if the animal was to jump or move while it is being trimmed," says Michael Bihlmaier, the inventor of Zen Clipper. It gives me peace of mind knowing their very sensitive quick is protected from being snipped. The cutting is done by a stainless steel blade inside the conical design. And because nails aren’t crushed (as happens with other clippers), jagged edges and the need to file is eliminated.
You Can Choose the Perfect Size for Your Pet
Zen Clipper comes seven different sizes so it’s easy to choose the appropriate size for your pet. Sizes run from XXS to XXL and range from a 1.5mm hole to a 5mm hole for larger pets. You can request a free sizing card from Zen Clipper, or download one here.
If you purchase a clipper from their website that is not the correct size, the folks at Zen Clipper will replace it at no cost to you.
The Final Verdict
So, what’s the final verdict? This is now officially my favorite clipper. It really does make nail trims much less stressful for all of us. One feature I really like is that it’s relatively quiet. There is no loud clipping noise that usually frightens both of the girls and causes them to flinch and pull away (especially Lexy.)I like that I don’t have to worry about hurting them by cutting the quick and that there are no jagged nail edges left behind. Zen Clipper is a nail trimmer that I definitely recommend to lessen the stress at “manicure” time, and this works well for all of us.

Can you believe my nails are too thick for the normal cat-sized zen clippers? My human had to give away the pair we got at the Cat Writers Conference!
ReplyDeleteCan you please send us your contact info? We will help you with the right size clipper.

DeleteI trim them myself
ReplyDeleteAnything that is less stressful for cats is a winner with me!
ReplyDeleteI never mind getting my claws trimmed and we have one of those Zen Clippers here too!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! The Hubby does all nail trimming around Eastside Cats; I am too soft! But these clippers ROCK, so I'm throwing my hat into the ring, so to speak. Wonder if I could try to trim The PO'M's nails...he's always poking me...
ReplyDeleteWe always trimmed all the kitties nails that come in here too. Sometimes it can be difficult for one person to do. So always best to have someone around. Thanks for sharing your review. Have a wonderful rest of your week.

Mum has tried to cut my nails but I won't let her!
ReplyDeleteThey look like very good clippers. Eric and Flynn kept their nails naturally short with all the walks and tree climbing they did. I did have to trim Flynn's claws in his last year because he wasn't going out much. I used my own nail clippers on him, and considering he had never had it done before he just sat and let me do it.
ReplyDeleteI trim them myself, but I always dread it.
ReplyDeleteConfession: I have NEVER clipped a cat's nails. This makes me tempted to give it a try though!
ReplyDeleteThose look great. I do most of them myself. No one can do Polar Bear or KaTwo's so they just use the scratcher. Poor Prancie, I have done hers too low and made her bleed. XO
ReplyDeleteI have just started trimming Scylla's as she has aged they don't seem to retract as well as they used too.
ReplyDeleteI take my dog to the salon to get his nails done because I am too scared to do it at home. But these clippers look like it’ll be easy.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these! And I love that I don't feel like we're just crushing the nail. Bear and Ellie were both too big for the clippers in the CWA Goodie Bag - we actually had to go up TWO sizes!
ReplyDeleteSince I can't see where the quick is, I have to beg friends to help me clip the kitties' claws or get it done at the vet when we go. I wonder if this would allow me to actually clip their claws myself?
ReplyDeleteHow can you tell the claw's circumference so as to get the right size? I don't think Katie will allow me to poke her claws through various holes. I love the idea of the clipper's safety feature. Just not sure how to get Katie's size.
ReplyDeleteWe rarely get our nails trimmed, but when we do, Claire uses that kind of clipper. Purrs
ReplyDeleteI need one like these too, Granny says I have to pawdicure my nails and this clipper looks just right for me and they're available in our Country too..yay! Extra Pawkisses for a Happy Wednesday🐾😽💞
ReplyDeletei hate clipping nails so love anything that makes it better!
ReplyDeleteIf it helps make cutting nails less stressful, then we love it!
ReplyDeleteWe've tried these out before! They work pretty well. We won't enter the giveaway since we already have a pair. :-)
ReplyDeletei dont have cats but i do trim my youngest dog. the older dog had a mishap when she was younger at her former vet and has to be sedated to have her nails done. i use similar scissors when my girls were small, puppies. they worked great. i have a dremal now.
ReplyDeleteI have done them myself but I prefer to do them at the vet
ReplyDeleteMom gets a migraine just thinking about cutting our nails because we are such Drama Cats. When she takes us to the Vee Eee Tee, she makes them the Bad Guyz and has them trim our nails. She mostly depends on us using the cardboard scratch pads and the cat trees. But these nail trimmers sound like a great idea. Thanks for the review, Miz Dawn.
ReplyDeleteWe do it ourselves.
ReplyDeleteNeat clipper
ReplyDeleteWonder if there will be a size that fits all the cats here.
ReplyDeleteGo to the groomer.
