When I saw the Cabrio Carrier by Catit my interest was piqued, and I wondered how Lola would fare in it. When the opportunity came about to work with Catit on a review, I was very excited to give the carrier a try. (Read our tips on how to get your cat to love their carrier.)
Catit Cabrio Multi-Functional Carrier
The Cabrio Multi-Functional Carrier is designed to keep cats safe and comfortable during transport and for long periods of time. Catit engineered a spacious, comfortable carrier specifically for cats' needs.
In March of 2019, the Cabrio was awarded the Indy Bestbuy Cat Carrier by The Independent. After trying it out, I can see why.
The front door opening is very roomy, and the unique 360° accessible top opening makes it super easy to get your cat into it. That means less stress for the trip right off the bat. And because getting Lola into the carrier has always been a huge undertaking, I really appreciate these features.
Key Features
The Cabrio has many key, unique features, including the following.
1. The unique 360° accessible design with a single-hand locking mechanism provides easy access and makes it much easier to not only place your cat inside but to get it securely closed and locked
2. A strong integrated handle with carrying strap allows for easy, safe carrying. This also allows for the carrier to be safely secured with the car's seatbelt looped through the handle.
2. It has optimal airflow and ventilation to keep your cat cool and prevents overheating while traveling.
3. The door is multifunctional and includes slide out bowls so you can feed your cat without opening the door (and preventing escapes!) The door can also be padlocked for added security. (Padlocks not included.)
4. It can double as a cozy bed if you're on vacation in a hotel, or if your furry friend has to have an extended stay at the vet.
5. It has an anti-slip bottom with collection gutter for urine or spilled cat food. I was particularly interested in this feature. What did I think of it? You'll see as you read on.
The Cabrio Carrier Put to the Test
Lola and I set out to the vet for her annual check up to put the carrier to the test.
Getting Lola into the carrier is an ordeal. I have to plan things down to the exact second, or she gets suspicious and hides under the bed. When I finally do get her to the carrier, she plants all four paws against the door, so I have to turn the carrier on its side and put her in that way. I hate stressing her out!
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get Lola into the Cabrio because of the large entryway. I slipped her right in, easy peasy!
I also liked the fact that there is plenty of ventilation, and that she can see more of what's going on in the world around her.
It secures into the car very easily and stayed put during the stop and go traffic during NYC rush hour on a Friday.
Normally I would put a pad in the bottom of the carrier because of Lola's accidents, but since I wanted to put the collection gutter to the test I didn't. I did plan on putting a pad on the seat underneath the carrier in case it leaked, but I left it upstairs in the apartment and didn't want to leave Lola alone in the car to go get it.
I have to admit, I was nervous. When we arrived at the vet and I went to remove Lola from the car, I immediately smelled urine. I quickly checked the seat to see if anything leaked out, and it was completely dry. The collection gutter passed the test!
I also liked how much room Lola had, and was able to stand up comfortably. Our previous hard carrier did not allow her to stand up and believe that caused even more anxiety and stress for her. (As a point of reference, Lola weighs 8 pounds and is not a big cat in stature.)
Another feature I really like is the door. Lola would always claw at the metal door in our other carriers, and I was always nervous that she'd hurt herself. There is no clawing in the Cabrio, and overall I have to say Lola appeared calmer.
The waiting room at the vet was crowded when we arrived, and everyone commented on our carrier and asked questions about it. We definitely stood out!
The Final Verdict
The Cabrio Multi-Functional Carrier gets two thumbs up from me. In addition to my comments above, it was easy to put together. You do have to make sure everything lines up just right so the top clips closed securely, but if I can do it, anyone can.
It's very easy to clean. After I gave it a good wash there was absolutely no lingering urine smell.
I'm afraid Lola will never give a carrier two paws up, but I can state on her behalf that she was more comfortable in the Cabrio, and was more calm than usual. (As long as I can still hear her sing the song of her people the entire trip, she's happy!)
Additional Information
The Cabrio is a roomy 20 x 13 x 13.75 in (51 L x 33 W x 35 H cm) and weighs 6.7 pounds. It can hold a pet up to 25 pounds. It is available in Blue-Gray, Turquoise, and Cherry Red (not in US). It comes with a carrying strap that clips onto the handle. I didn't use it because it's much easier for me to use the handle to carry Lola down the three flights of stairs in our building.

Hey, that's a cool PTU! There are a lot of features that I really like!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
We like the looks of it too and that was a terrific review!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great carrier but we are too far away to take advantage of your giveaway!

Great review ! That sounds like a very good PTU ! Purrs
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great carrier, and a very good review.
ReplyDeleteThat carrier would be purrrfect for Zoey. We like the way it opens.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I like the way it opens on top. I also like that it is easy to clean- Millie always poops on the way to the vet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great carrier! Thank you so much for this really informative review. :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a really awesome carrier! I already have like 6 carriers... but I couldn't resist entering!
ReplyDeleteWOW! You have your own Cabrio...Pawsome! it looks great :) Today we're especially Thankful for YOU💗Pawkisses for a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you🐾😽💞
ReplyDeleteI like it and think maybe with a few curtains and some cool furniture it could make a great feline mobile palace rather than PTU.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, it looks like there has been a lot of thought has gone into this, and good production methods too. All in all looks like this could be the shape of PTU's to come. Bit like a TESLA really, without the batteries or speed ;)

That's pretty neat! My cats aren't Houdinis, but there was one carrier Ellie kept escaping from because the zipper wasn't secure. It's be interesting to see how Lola does next time - now that she's used to the new carrier - if this carrier lessens her anxiety about the trip at all.
ReplyDeleteTW says this looks very nice. Getting me into a PTU is just like Lola. I think Dr. D. will like it too since with the sides down, she can examine me and keep me in my comfort zone. We missed the Black Friday sale but will check it out Monday. We do hope we can win this though. We like the turquoise.
ReplyDeleteI like how this comes apart so it makes for easy cleaning. I hate putting a cat in a dirty carrier and the other style that do not open up are super tough to always clean up really well.
ReplyDeleteellen beck on form
I like how you can put in food & water without opening the door fully.
ReplyDeleteWhat a Great Review!! I love that it's easy to clean, spacious and I LOVE LOVE LOVE how the sides come down!!
ReplyDeleteI like that you can take the carrier apart.
ReplyDeleteI like that the entire top opens up to make it easier to place the cat inside.
ReplyDeleteI like that the carrier opens up at the top making it very easy to put your cat in it. I also like that it has plenty of air flow and you can attach a seat belt to it. It seems very well thought out. I hope that it is made of sturdy material, however, since some carriers are made of very flimsy plastic.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great carrier! Harley pees when he goes to the vet, too. And now that he has CKD, we have to take him more often. So this carrier might be perfect for him. Great review!
ReplyDeleteMy cats love to sleep in their carriers for some reason so I like that it works as a bed and I also think the water/food dishes are cool!
ReplyDeleteI love that it has a built-in feeder. That would help with traveling.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy this carrier worked for Lola and you. Truffle and Brulee used to love sleeping in their carriers until they had numerous visits to the vet two years ago.
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks amazing. Good luck to the entrants!
ReplyDeleteI like that the top opens because our cat resists going into a carrier . I also like how well ventilated it is.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many things to love about this carrier! I really like how it fastens into the car with the seat belt. And I'm a big fan of the door, like you mentioned! Right now I'm using one of those standard black metal kennels/carriers that you see everywhere, sometimes fitting both of my cats in there. It definitely seems nowhere near as nice and comfortable as the product featured here.

I love how well ventilated it is to keep things cool for the cat inside and give good air flow.
ReplyDeleteI like that it looks easy to strap into a car.
ReplyDeleteI like that it looks really well made and roomy and comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI like how much room it has.
ReplyDeleteI love the easy access capability. Much easier to get kitty in and out of the carrier.
ReplyDeleteLooks nice love that the cat can see out without bars.
ReplyDeleteWould love to try this. Thank you
ReplyDeleteLove all of the holes, so our babies can see more!
