Lola and Lexy can be picky eaters. Their wet food has to be a certain consistency and flavor, and if it doesn't meet their requirements 100% they won't eat it. That pickiness carries over to their dry food as well and they will walk away from it if it's not flavorful enough. I have to feed them a hybrid diet of wet and dry because Lola will not live on wet food alone. (I told you they are picky!) So I'm frequently looking for high-quality dry foods to feed them that don't contain a lot of fillers and artificial ingredients. Hound & Gatos fits that bill.
Hound & Gatos Natural Food for Pets
The first thing that drew my attention to Hound & Gatos dry food is that is made of 88% protein from animal sources. Because cats are obligate carnivores, I prefer to feed the girls a dry food that is high in protein, which is not always easy to find.
The girls received the Cage-Free Turkey Recipe to try out. Lexy couldn't wait to dig right in.
Key Benefits
Hound & Gatos is a limited ingredient dry food without:
- peas, lentils, chickpeas, or white potatoes
- rendered poultry
- grains of any kind
It is also made with a medley of superfoods, contains no rendered and highly processed animal meals, and has added taurine which is so important for feline health. All of the ingredients are traceable as well. Meat is always the number 1 ingredient in all of their formulas!
The majority of the ingredients for Hounds & Gatos' foods are sourced from the U.S. and Canada, and it is manufactured right here in the U.S.
In addition to the Cage Free Turkey Recipe, their dry food also comes in Cage Free Chicken and Wild Caught Salmon. You can check all of them out here. Hounds & Gatos also comes in 13 flavors of wet food, which you can read about here.
If you have a dog in the family don't worry, they're not left out! There is a wide variety of wet and dry dog food as well, and they all have the same great benefits of their cat food.
Where to Purchase
The Final Verdict
What's the final verdict? Here's a hint!
Hound & Gatos recommend that new users mix gradually larger portions into your cat's food for the first five to seven days until you are feeding 100% Hounds & Gatos. Lexy dug right in, as you can see, while Lola did better with a gradual mix.
Overall Hounds & Gatos gets two paws up from Lola and Lexy and two thumbs up from me. It's a high quality, high protein food, and it makes me feel better about feeding dry food to my girls. I like finding dry foods that have real meat as the first ingredient, backed up by other quality ingredients. Everyone here at the White house recommends Hound & Gatos.

That does look really good and we like all that stuff that is not in it!
ReplyDeleteHigh protein? I must instruct my staff to look into this cat food. Toffee.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a good food. I know how important protein is to our cats. XO
ReplyDeleteThis looks good and I've rarely met a kibble I haven't liked. Thanks for the giveaway and double thank you if I win.
ReplyDeleteMy kitties would love to win this!! They are little food hounds and we go through cat food so fast!
ReplyDeleteMudpie is such a kibble hound she just might enjoy this!
ReplyDeleteI have a can of Hounds & Gatos canned rabbit food, but haven't let Raven try it yet. I might have to crack it open and see what she thinks of it (and what her tummy thinks of it).
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like awesome food!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this food, but it seriously sounds great. Love that it's high protein. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteMy mum always makes sure I get enough meat in my diet. Bozita (from Sweden) chicken for indoor and sterilised cats is a good one. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI've been doing TONS of research into cat food ingredients. With Bear's IBD and diabetes, and the horrible reaction he had to the last high protein/super high animal source protein kibble we tried, I've really put a lot of time into making better choices for him. I haven't looked into this brand though. There's a lot of conflicting information out there - one source will say "ingredient x" is bad - and another source will claim "ingredient x" is actually better for cats than "ingredients p, q, y." Of course, it's not that simple ... each cat is different and what might be easier to digest for one cat won't necessarily hold true for others. I wish I'd known what I know now years ago!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't know Hounds and Gatos made a dry food. Their canned food is great quality and we're sure their dry is too.
ReplyDeleteThat looks pretty good and Lexy sure likes it. Lets get in on this giveaway
ReplyDeleteNever heard of the brand. Sounds great.
ReplyDeleteYou better not even think about taking that bowl away. The glare of NOPE! Thanks for visiting us ;-)
ReplyDeleteNever heard of this brand but it sounds like a high quality food, which is hard to find nowadays
ReplyDeleteI am always looking for new brands! Thanks for the review
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this! I think my little fur babies will really enjoy the wild salmon. Thanks for reviewing Hound and Gatos (love the name!), it sounds very nutritious, natural, and protein-rich — which I love!
ReplyDeleteThat sure sounds like a high quality and tasty food! It's not easy finding that combo these days.
ReplyDeleteDoes look very good. It's interesting how there is a new selling point no--no legumes or potatoes. Meanwhile, the most recent review published in the Journal of Animal Science found no direct link between the modern grain-feee diets and DCM in dogs.
ReplyDeleteI don't have cats but can totally relate to the struggle of feeding a picky pet, and how hard it can be to find that 'perfect' food that they'll consistently eat but that is also good for them. I'm glad it sounds like you found something that will work well for your cats!
ReplyDeleteThat really sounds like a great food and am happy picky eater enjoyed it, thank you for the information and letting me know they have dog food also.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of this brand before - I will have to start looking for it in stores!
ReplyDeleteThis is new to us. I like the look of this though. I am sharing so plenty of people get the chance to enter.
ReplyDeleteVery grateful I got to see you and other friends at Global 2019. This food looks great! I had not heard of the brand before. Do they do dog food too?
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see you, too! Yes, they do have a dog food line. My niece is going to try it with her dog.
DeleteThis looks like a great choice for cats! All three of my sisters have cats, so I'll let them know to enter this! I'll have to check out their dog food for my gang!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with a super picky eater. Pippen is so particular about what she does or doesn't want to eat. We even splurged on freeze dried minnow treats that she won't touch recently lol This sounds like a great option - I'll definitely have to look into it!
ReplyDeleteWe love this food. If we were to win (which we hope we do!) we wonder if the company would let us have some of their canned food instead of the kibble. One can always ask.

ReplyDeleteMy cat Squeaky would love to try this food
