Lola and Lexy’s litter box is in the living room. Previously it was in a boxed-in corner, and if one of them decided to engage in some “litter box stalking” the other was pretty much trapped. And the tracking! Oh, the tracking! Even though I use a good, low tracking litter, it would still get on my carpet and all over my furniture. It was also right in front of a bookcase that I would frequently need something from, and I would have to move the box to open the door. We all needed an update!
I had previously been using a semi-covered litter box, and I wondered about switching to an open one. Would the girls kick litter all over the place? The veterinary recommended Betterbox non-stick litter box's dimensions of 22 x 18 x 8" (with a 5" entryway height – which is great for older cats) really helps keep the litter from going all over the place.
The Betterbox is made from ABS plastic, and what I really love about it is the anti-microbial, non-stick coating which reduces sticking up to 70% and assists with odor control. I do not have to repeatedly scrape the bottom of the box to scoop out the clumps, and there is no residue left on the bottom of it. Scooping is so much easier now! I wondered if the non-stick coating would really help with odor control, and I’m happy to say that it does! I stopped using any litter deodorizer for the duration of the review, and I did not smell the box when I walked into my apartment. (And we’ve had some really humid days here in the North East.)
I did a full litter change so I could report on the cleaning process. It was a breeze! The non-stick coating makes it so easy to clean with just some dish soap, water, and air drying. No smell, no lingering odors, no hard scrubbing needed.
The QuickSoop Litter Scoop is generously sized and measures 13.2 x 4.8 x 3.2". It sits flush against the bottom of the box for faster scooping and allows for faster sifting. It’s designed to scoop forward to capture the litter so you don’t have to dig down to be able to get everything. It’s larger than the scoops I usually use, but I liked it right away. Probably because it also has a non-stick coating, the scoop doesn’t get as “gross” as my previous scoop, and it wipes off easily.
The ToughGrip Litter Mat is available in Large (30 x 23"), which we have, and Extra Large (38 x 26"). It is made from a tough, thick, hygienic silicone; has a tall outer lip; raised ridges; and anti-slip bumps underneath to keep it from sliding. The ToughGrip mat is also anti-microbial as well as water and stain resistant.
I had something like this product before and didn’t really like it. I was pretty much resigned to the fact that I’d never use something similar again, but the Portable Cat Litter Disposal has changed my mind. The locking handle, silicone gasket, and non-toxic charcoal cat litter deodorizer (which lasts up to six months) keeps any odors at bay. I don’t even know there is used litter in it!
This fixed waste receptacle makes daily (or more frequent!) scooping easier because you can dispose of the waste right next to the litter box easily and without a mess. The disposal bin comes with a complimentary roll of biodegradable, compostable bags, but it easily accommodates any bag you want to use with the clips on the sides of the removable inner pail. (The included bags can hold up to 2 weeks of waste.) The dimensions are16.7" tall x 9.5 x 9.5 and it fits easily next to the litter box. (Refills for both the charcoal filter and biodegradable bags are available.)
You can easily carry a full pail to the garbage can by the handle. No mess and no fuss.... litter disposal at it's easiest.
The Pièce De Résistance of our new privacy zone is the Modestcat Litter Box Privacy Screen, and this is my favorite in the collection. This is what stylishly separates the litter box area from the rest of the room. You’re probably wondering “does my cat really need a privacy screen?” Yes, they do, and so do you!
This gorgeous three panel room divider stands 3 feet tall and is 4 feet long. The two-way hinges are flexible, allowing for easy configurability (Z-shape or U-shape) to fit your space. The semi-transparent panels are scratch-proof, easy to clean and let in enough light so your cat doesn’t feel trapped. The best part for us? It allows for multiple entrance and exit points so neither of the girls is trapped when her sister feels like stalking.
The privacy screen effortlessly conceals the litter box, gives your cat privacy and personal space and helps reduce the spread of litter.
At first I thought our new privacy zone was a little awkward, but I quickly got used to it. I rarely go into the bookcase next to it, and if I have to all I have to do is move the screen and I have plenty of room. It is very effective at reducing the spread of litter. There is so much less tracking on my furniture and new carpet, which makes me ecstatic!
If you're wondering if your cats will knock it over, Lola and Lexy haven't. It's been up close to two weeks (as I write this), and there have been no problems. Even the "after dinner zoomies" were no match for it.

QuickScoop Litter Scoop
ToughGrip Litter Mat
It’s super easy to clean with my hand vacuum and wipes down easily. (It also stands up to my larger vaccuum.) I like the side spout that makes pouring unused litter back into the box quite easy without it getting all over the floor.
There is a lot less on the floor and less tracking on my new carpet.

You don't even know there's a litter box back there! |

Putting it all Together
After I shot the video I moved the litter mat further toward the front of the box because I didn't need as much in the back. The walls of the box are high enough to prevent a big mess back there. Moving it up helps cut down on tracking even more.
Here's our final setup:
The Final Verdict
I give the PetFusion litter line a definite two thumbs up. And I'm sure I can speak on Lola and Lexy's behalf and say they each give it four paws up. They accepted the new layout right away, and a ppear to like the new litter box better than our previous one. They have plenty of room to move around in it, they can dig to their hearts' content, and there is a fast and easy escape if one of them gets a little too rambunctious and wants to get too close to her sister when she's using the facilities. (Yes, Lola, I'm talking about you!)
All of the products are of high quality, are very well made, and come with a 12-month warranty for any issue resulting from a manufacturer defect.
When you live in an apartment, you make use of every inch of available space and you do the best with what you've got. Lola, Lexy, and I dream of the day when we have a larger home and they have an entire room for themselves. Until then, I created a functional, appropriate litter box zone for Lola and Lexy while keeping my living room looking stylish. The new set up is easier for all of us to access, is comfortable for the girls, and keeps our environment neater. It's a win for all of us girls here at the White house! I highly recommend the PetFusion litter line to all cat parents.

ReplyDeleteWow, your potty space looks amazing! I love the screen and litter box.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a nice roomy litter box.
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice sized box and I like the privacy screen- much better than a covered box. XO
ReplyDeleteWes could have used something like this when wes was living in a tiny apartment in Vancouver! I love the Better box - no stick and the size of the box! The fitted scoop! The privacy screen! The mat with a spout! What a great package!
ReplyDeleteToo bad we are in Canada...

Super cool. We especially like the non-stick litter pan and that scooper!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a really awesome set up!
ReplyDeleteThe spam commenters , the one above me here, are getting a tad more clever...I have some new ones showing up on my bloggie too. Girls, I love a large bathroom and yours there is ideal! I like your entire set up. XXXOOO
ReplyDeleteThe privacy screen is a really cool idea! I don't have a cat, but if I did I'd totally be interested in a set up like that. What a nice way to give your pet some privacy, while also blocking the litter box from sight for the people.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I am definitely interested in some of these items.
ReplyDeleteThe size of a litterbox does seem to be an important feature. I know that mom's cats stopped wanting to use theirs as they outgrew it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a marvellous set up and I love the disposal option. It waves so much trouble and effort. The litter try is substantial and I love the high sides too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous option for indoor cat owners.
This is awesome! My mom has two cats and she’s always trying to work on the litter box area. I will have to pass your blog along to her!
ReplyDeleteI love that screen, what a brilliant idea. Great review and if I had a cat I would for definite invest in this
ReplyDeleteWe have two bathrooms - one near the front door in a little alcove under thw stairs, and one in the utility room. But We still manage to get litter on Our Paws and drag it all over the place.
ReplyDeleteBriliant mat! Thank you for the review, your cat is so cute!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely new bathroom, thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteThe litter mat looks great! We have always had a problem with our cats tracking. I have a separate litter closet area that only the cats can access (or our dogs will enjoy a treat) but we still find litter randomly around the house lol
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great cool potty space! Every one deserves a little privacy!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great set up! Your new carpet is really pretty, I'm glad that you don't have a problem with litter tracking.
ReplyDeleteI would love to test out that box! I love how big it is. Litter mats are a no go here though - every time I’ve tried one, Musette decides that it’s the perfect place to pee. I use a pelleted litter so thankfully they don’t track too much. I have boxes everywhere since I have a large furry family. I wish I thought the panels would work here. I can’t use covered boxes and hiding them would be great. But I know they would just get knocked over. Wildest cats live here lol
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice setup!!! I plan on rearranging the girls' litter box area once I get this home office cleaned out!
ReplyDeleteGreat post and we are having our Human check out your suggestions!
ReplyDeletePurrs & head Bonks,
Alberto
Love all the items for BOO! But am I the only one concerned with having it all in the living room of our small apartment? No good for company and entertaining. In our old apartment we kept the litter box in the bathtub, using the shower curtain for privacy. BOO! is older now and it's harder for him getting in and out of the tub!
