Welcome back to "Lola on the Road." After a little hiatus I'm back to bring you another cat café. In July I met up with a group of my great blogging friends for a weekend in Chicago to attend Meow Meetup, and I made sure I had time to squeeze in a trip to a cat café (or two! Stay tuned!) My first stop in Chicago was to The Windy Kitty Cat Café.

Hello, and Happy Wednesday! We have another rescue story to share with you. Today our good friend Calvin, of Oliver and Calvin is sharing his story in his own words. We've been friends with Calvin, his brother Oliver, and their mom for many years on Facebook. We're so proud that he wanted to share his story with our readers.  I'm sure you'll love reading it. It was my first day out in the adoption room at The Humane Society. I’d been here for about 6 weeks. Some nice people grabbed me off the street. I never knew any other place, and for sure didn’t know what home was.

Today is a very important day in the rescue/advocacy world. Today is Remember Me Thursday, a day where light is shined on and attention is brought to pets in rescues and shelters waiting for their forever homes. It stresses the importance of animal adoption because 2.7 million orphan shelter pets lose their lives without ever finding their forever homes. Alarmingly, only 30% of household pets in the U.S. come from rescue facilities. Only 30%! That number is disturbing to me. There are so many shelters and rescues in the country that are at full capacity, and cannot take in another animal. That means that animal will most likely remain on the street.
